Fourth of July Fun

Yesterday was the fourth of July. For anyone that doesn’t know, that means independence day in America. It is a national holiday and a big deal. A typical independence day includes a day of barbecuing finished with a fireworks display and if you are catching the subway home, people throwing up in the bin. Nice.

I went to a roof top party at my soon to be apartment. I will be moving in a week and a half and I could not be more excited. The view is spectacular and my new house mate Gabriella is pretty awesome too.

As my contribution to the festivities, I made a big jug of Sangria. It was a big hit but disappeared all too quickly. The recipe for the Sangria comes from my dad. He acquired it from his favourite spanish restaurant in Sydney. Be warned it will leave you legless if you are not careful.

1 bottle of red wine

1/2 bottle of Vermouth (dry, sweet, or red)

1 slurp of Brandy (slurp is anywhere between 25ml and 100ml)

1 slurp of Triple Sec (Cointreau)

1 pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon

750ml lemonade

250ml dry ginger ale

Assorted Fruit (1 diced apple, 1 sliced orange)

Chill and pour over ice.
